After having written what he called his last newspaper feature titled “in dire need of Anglophone media moguls” which was published in some English language newspapers, civil society activist and Chief executive officer of a Non Governmental Organisation, AfricaPhonie, Mwalimu George Ngwane, has shared with Eden some of the hallmarks of his 25 years writing career.

“After the last article, I have had some feedback, people wondering whether that was my farewell feature-writing. Yes it is. It’s been real wonderful because I have been writing since 1987” he said.

Three More Cameroonians Benefit Chevening Grants

Three more Cameroonians have benefited from the UK Government through the Chevening grants for the 2010 scheme. The three laureates were presented to the public during a send-off party January 07 at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Cameroon in Yaounde.

They include; George Ngwane, Executive Director of AFRICAphonie, a pan-African NGO based in Buea, Peter Sona, Senior Police Superintendent of the Directorate of the Frontier Police in Yaounde and John Ngando, a politician and member of the Alliance of Progressive Forces party, who is based in Limbe.

Why is it important for Independents to run for elections?
The participation of Independent candidates in every election translates into political reality the repossession of popular sovereignty and democratic legitimacy by all the citizens. Party formation is founded on the will of a section of the people prepared ostensibly to articulate the people’s interest by electoral then representative democracy.  But above all, democracy is rooted in the concept of choices and options.  Independent candidacy is one of those options that expands democratic space, that focuses on individual merit, that addresses issues specific to the electorate and that provides an opportunity for the young men and women to actively participate in politics.
