Models of a Dialogue Assembly

So much ink and spittle have been spilled since 2016 on the need for a Dialogue platform or Assembly to seek sustainable solutions to the ongoing crisis in Cameroon. However both the form and the content of such an Assembly are still shrouded in conjectures and speculations.
A few models of or approaches to a Dialogue Assembly would help state and non-state actors who believe in creating dialogue spaces make decisions,recommendations,proposals, and implementation benchmarks that hopefully should resonate with the aspirations of the citizenry. Models identified below do not include those targeting trade unions or socio-professional groups. The focus here is on grievances of a national character where the Dialogue Assembly is both dynamic in process and structured in event.

The Iceberg of Opposition Politics in Cameroon (Part 1)

The resignation of Dr. Elizabeth Tamanjong as Secetary General of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) on 12th February 2015 is not a novelty in the DNA of Opposition party politics in Cameroon. And that is where the problem lies.  The resignation risks especially as she is the third Secetary General to resign since the party was founded on 26th May 1990 to be interpreted through the myopic lenses of a déjà vu, nuanced with spatial conversations of conscience or conviction buying or blighted by the current social media rebuttal of real or imaginary ruling party destruction intentions of the SDF. 

Civic Education and Healthcare

An Academic Discourse presented on the occasion of the Matriculation and Induction of students at the St. Veronica’s Medical Centre, Buea on 8^th November 2013.

I wish to thank the Management of St. Veronica’s Medical Centre for inviting me to share some thoughts on civic education and healthcare practices on this year’s Matriculation and Induction ceremony.

My conversation has as target group these fresh persons who have elected themselves into the health space  for the next 1 to 4 years depending on the programs they are offering and my impact group is all those who are making a living from the medical profession.

I hope to look at why civic education has become topical these days, throw a frog’s eye view on some of the anti-civic education patterns that contradict the best practices in our healthcare and try to make some suggestions that could marry civic education with healthcare service delivery.

The United Nations summit of 14 – 16 September in New York has ended without the agenda of Africa’s development occupying central debate.

Like the media – hyped G8 summit of 6 – 8 July on Debt Relief in Gleneagles; Scotland, the UN Summit once again derailed the focal issues of the Millennium Development Goals (universal Primary Education, eradication of poverty, gender equality, reducing child mortality, environmental sustainability, fight against disease etc) in favour of reforms of the United Nations, and definitions of terrorism.
